Manang village
A stone village at 3,519 m under Annapurna III and Gangapurna, where trekkers rest before the Thorong La.
Manang lies in the upper Marsyangdi valley, in the rain shadow of the Annapurnas, so it is dry and sunny with a landscape of eroded cliffs, pine and barley fields. The Manangi people were historically famous long-distance traders across Asia.
Trekkers spend a day or two here to acclimatise, climbing to Gangapurna lake, the Ice Lake or the Praken Gompa where a lama blesses passers-by. The old monasteries of Braga and Bhraka nearby are worth visiting.
