One small country, three worlds
Nepal is only about 200 km from north to south, yet it climbs from 59 m above sea level in the Terai to 8,849 m on the summit of Everest. In a single day's drive you can pass from rhino grassland to pine ridges and see snow peaks on the horizon.
This guide is organised the way Nepal itself is: seven provinces, 77 districts and three ecological belts — Himal (mountains), Pahad (hills) and Terai (plains). Pick a place on the map, browse by district, or go straight to the hidden gems.
Himal — the mountains
The Himal (mountain) belt covers the northern third of Nepal, above roughly 3,000 m in its inhabited valleys and rising to the highest peaks on earth.

The Pahad (hill) belt is the middle of Nepal, roughly 600 to 3,000 m: terraced ridges, river valleys, rhododendron forest and the Kathmandu and Pokhara valleys.

The Terai is the flat, fertile strip along the Indian border, mostly below 300 m, together with the inner-Terai valleys such as Chitwan and Dang behind the Chure (Siwalik) hills.
