The ancient Koliya kingdom, maternal home of Queen Maya Devi, where the Buddha spent time as a child.
Devdaha, east of Butwal, is identified with the capital of the Koliya clan, the family of the Buddha's mother Maya Devi and his wife Yashodhara. Maya Devi was on her way here to give birth when she stopped at Lumbini.
Sites include the Kumarbarti temple, Bhawanipur and the Khayardanda archaeological mounds. Devdaha is part of the Greater Lumbini Buddhist circuit and makes a quiet addition to a Lumbini visit.
