Satasi Dham
A shrine of the Rajbanshi community and the old Satasi kingdom in south-east Jhapa, with ponds and ancient trees.
Satasi Dham, in Jhapa's south-east near the Mechi border, is linked with the memory of a local kingdom and is sacred particularly to the Rajbanshi, Koch and other indigenous communities of the eastern Terai. Fairs are held at major festivals.
It is a good place to see the other side of Jhapa: flat paddy fields, bamboo groves, traditional mud-and-thatch houses and communities whose culture is shared with North Bengal across the border.
