Gaur
Rautahat's old border town between the Bagmati and Lalbakaiya rivers, a crossroads of Bhojpuri and Bajjika culture.
Gaur is the headquarters of Rautahat, set on the Indian border in the flat, fertile land between two rivers that often flood in the monsoon. Its markets draw traders from both sides of the open border.
The district's northern towns, such as Chandrapur (Chandranigahapur) on the highway, lie against the Chure forest. Chhath and Holi are celebrated here with great energy.
