Malangwa and the Sarlahi plains
A quiet border town among mango groves and sugar-cane fields, with the Bagmati river and Chure forests nearby.
Malangwa, the headquarters of Sarlahi, is a small, slow town on the Indian border. The district is farming country — rice, sugar cane, lentils and some of the best mangoes in Nepal — with Maithili, Bajjika and Pahadi communities living side by side.
North of the highway, the Chure hills of Sarlahi are covered in sal forest, and the Bagmati forms the western boundary. The area has few visitors, so expect curiosity and hospitality rather than tourist facilities.
