Nepalgunj and Bageshwari

The busy border city that is the hub for flights into Karnali, with the Bageshwari shrine at its heart.
Nepalgunj is the largest city of the mid-western Terai and the gateway to the far west: small planes fly from its airport to Simikot, Jumla, Rara, Dolpa and other mountain airstrips. Its bazaars mix Awadhi, Tharu, Pahadi and Muslim communities.
The Bageshwari temple is a Shakti Peetha where, in one tradition, part of Sati's body fell. Just outside the city, Banke National Park and the Rapti river make good nature trips.
