Nepal's largest inner-Terai valley, a Tharu heartland with the Ambikeshwari temple and the cities of Ghorahi and Tulsipur.
Dang is a wide valley between the Chure and Mahabharat ranges, long home to the Dangaura Tharu, whose painted mud houses, fishing traditions and Maghi festival in January are central to local life. Ghorahi and Tulsipur are now fast-growing cities.
The Ambikeshwari temple in Ghorahi is the valley's main shrine. The Ratna Nath monastery at Chaughera is a historic seat of the Nath sect. The southern Deukhuri valley holds the capital of Lumbini Province.
