Sirubari
Nepal's first model village-tourism project (1997): a Gurung village of ex-Gurkha families hosting guests in their homes.
In 1997 Sirubari became the pioneer of organised village tourism in Nepal. Guests are welcomed with garlands and tika, stay with local families, eat home-cooked meals and are entertained with Gurung songs and dances in the evening. Many households are families of retired Gurkha soldiers.
The village sits on a ridge in Syangja with views of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, and short walks lead to Thumro hill and neighbouring villages. It remains a model for homestays across the country.
