Triveni Dham and Valmiki Ashram

A sacred confluence on the Narayani at the Indian border, with the forest hermitage of the Ramayana's poet Valmiki.
At Triveni, three rivers — the Narayani (Gandak), Sona and Tamasa — are said to meet, and the site is linked with the legend of the elephant and crocodile (Gajendra Moksha). A great fair is held here at Maghe Sankranti.
A short way into the forest lies the Valmiki Ashram, where the sage Valmiki is said to have composed the Ramayana and sheltered Sita and her twin sons Lava and Kusha. The area borders Valmiki Tiger Reserve in India and Chitwan in Nepal.
