The cave at the Madi–Seti confluence where the sage Vyasa is said to have been born and composed the Mahabharata.
Damauli, headquarters of Tanahun, sits where the Madi river joins the Seti Gandaki. By tradition this is the birthplace of Veda Vyasa, compiler of the Vedas and author of the Mahabharata, and a small cave above the confluence is dedicated to him; the municipality is named Vyas after him.
A temple and ghat stand at the river junction, and a fair is held on Vyasa's birthday at Guru Purnima. It is an easy stop on the Prithvi Highway between Kathmandu and Pokhara.
