Deuti Bajai
A much-loved goddess shrine in the Surkhet valley, where devotees offer bells and pray for wishes.
Deuti Bajai ('grandmother goddess') is the guardian deity of the Surkhet valley. According to local legend she was a pious woman who became a goddess, and her temple west of Birendranagar is hung with thousands of bells offered by devotees whose wishes were granted.
It is busiest on Saturdays and during Dashain. The temple is set among trees on a low hill and makes a short outing from the city.
