Kakrebihar

The stone ruins of a 12th–13th century temple complex in a forest above Birendranagar, with Buddhist and Hindu carvings.
Kakrebihar is an archaeological site in a protected forest just south of Birendranagar. The ruins of a large stone temple, believed to date from the Khasa Malla period, are carved with images of the Buddha, bodhisattvas and Hindu deities, showing the mix of traditions in the medieval Karnali.
The Department of Archaeology has been reconstructing the main temple. The forest walk to the site is pleasant, and it is easily combined with a visit to Bulbule Lake.
