Dhulikhel
An old Newar town on the Araniko Highway with one of the widest Himalayan views near Kathmandu.
Dhulikhel is the headquarters of Kavrepalanchok and an old trading town on the road to Tibet. Its quiet core of brick houses and temples sits below modern hotels that look out on a sweep of peaks from Langtang to Everest's neighbours.
It is a base for walks to Namobuddha and Panauti, and Dhulikhel Hospital, one of the country's best, is here. Kathmandu University lies just below the town.
