Bagmati Province

The Kathmandu Valley and its seven World Heritage monument zones, Langtang and Gaurishankar in the north, and Chitwan's jungle in the south.

Bagmati Province is named after the holy river that flows past Pashupatinath. It contains the Kathmandu Valley — the capital, Patan and Bhaktapur, with their Newar squares, temples and festivals — and the province is the most visited part of Nepal by far.

Yet it reaches much further. To the north are the Langtang and Helambu valleys, the Tamang Heritage Trail, Gosaikunda lake and the Gaurishankar and Rolwaling Himal of Dolakha. To the south, beyond the Mahabharat range and the old road over Daman, lies Chitwan National Park with its rhinos, tigers and Tharu villages. Hetauda, on the Rapti river between the two, is the provincial capital.
