Helambu Trek

A gentle trek from Kathmandu's rim into Hyolmo villages with monasteries, apple orchards and forest ridges.
Helambu (Yolmo) is the valley system north-east of Kathmandu, home of the Hyolmo people, a Buddhist community related to the Sherpa. The trek can start by walking straight out of the city from Sundarijal over Shivapuri, then follows ridges through Chisapani, Kutumsang and Tharepati to Melamchi Gaon and Tarkeghyang.
Altitudes stay mostly below 3,600 m, lodges are comfortable and the views of Langtang and Jugal Himal are fine, making it one of the best short treks for families and those with limited time. It links with Gosaikunda over the Laurebina pass.
