Jaljala
A high grassland in Rolpa sacred to the Kham Magar, with rhododendron forest and views of Sisne and Dhaulagiri.
Jaljala is a rolling pasture at about 3,000 m above the Rolpa hills, where a goddess of the same name is worshipped. The Kham Magar shepherds bring their flocks up in summer, and in spring the surrounding forest is full of rhododendron.
Rolpa was the heartland of the Maoist insurgency (1996–2006), and the Guerrilla Trek now links sites of that period with Magar villages and viewpoints like Jaljala. Tourism is in its early days; go with local guides and expect simple homestays.
