Langtang Valley Trek
A week-long walk up a glacier valley close to Kathmandu, to the yak pastures and monastery of Kyanjin Gompa.
The Langtang trek starts at Syabrubesi and follows the Langtang Khola through forest where red pandas and langurs live, up to the Tamang villages of the upper valley and Kyanjin Gompa (3,870 m), with its cheese factory and glaciers all around. Day climbs to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri give huge views of Langtang Lirung.
In 2015 the earthquake triggered a massive avalanche that buried Langtang village and killed hundreds of people. The community has rebuilt, and trekking brings important income. The route can be combined with Gosaikunda and Helambu.
