Lhotse
The world's fourth-highest mountain, joined to Everest by the South Col, with a colossal 3,000 m south face.
Lhotse means 'south peak' in Tibetan, and it stands directly south of Everest. At 8,516 m it is the fourth-highest summit on earth and was first climbed by a Swiss team in 1956. Climbers share the Everest route as far as the Lhotse Face.
Its south face, rising above the Chhukung valley, is one of the largest mountain walls in the world. Trekkers see it best from Chhukung Ri and Island Peak base camp.
