Salpa Pokhari
A sacred lake in the high forests where Bhojpur meets Solukhumbu, revered by the Rai as the home of their ancestors.
Salpa Pokhari lies at about 3,400 m on the Salpa–Silichong ridge. For the Rai people it is linked to Salpa, a legendary ancestor, and thousands of pilgrims gather here at the Janai Purnima full moon in August.
The lake is on the old Salpa pass trail between the Arun valley and the Everest region, a quiet route through dense rhododendron and fir forest. There are few facilities, so go with a guide or local porters.
