Sindhuligadhi
The hill fort where Gorkhali soldiers routed Captain Kinloch's East India Company force in 1767.
In 1767 the Malla king of Kathmandu, besieged by Prithvi Narayan Shah, asked the British East India Company for help. A force under Captain Kinloch marched up from the plains, but at Sindhuligadhi the Gorkhali defenders, using the steep terrain and ambushes, defeated it — Nepal's first battle with the British.
Remains of the fort and a memorial stand on the ridge beside the BP Highway, with views over the Kamala and Sunkoshi valleys. It is a good stop on the scenic drive between Kathmandu and the eastern Terai.
