Upardang Gadhi
An 18th-century hill fort on the ridge above Chitwan, built during the unification wars, with sweeping views.
Upardang Gadhi stands on the Mahabharat ridge north of Bharatpur, and was built in the 18th century as a military post guarding the route between the hills and the Chitwan valley. Stone walls, gateways and a temple remain.
From the top you look down over the flat green expanse of Chitwan to the south and across to Siraichuli and the Himalaya to the north. It is a rewarding half-day trip from Bharatpur, far from the safari crowds.
