Chaudandigadhi
Hill fort of the Sen kings of Chaudandi, defeated in the Gorkha unification, now a ridge of ruins and temples.
Chaudandi was one of the small kingdoms of the eastern hills ruled by the Sen dynasty, which also held Makwanpur and Vijayapur. Its fort stood on a ridge above the Triyuga valley and fell to the Gorkhali army during Prithvi Narayan Shah's unification in the 1770s.
Today the municipality bears the fort's name, and remains of walls and old temples stand in the forest on the ridge. The Udayapur valley below, with Gaighat and the Triyuga river, is inner Terai country with Tharu, Magar and Rai villages.
