Baitadi's great goddess temples on the hills above the Mahakali, with stone devals of the Doti–Kumaon style.
Baitadi, on the border with India's Kumaon, shares much of its culture with it: stone shikhara temples (deval), the worship of goddesses, and deuda songs. Tripurasundari near the headquarters and Melauli Bhagawati to the south are its most important shrines, crowded during Dashain.
The district's temples and stone water spouts reflect the Katyuri and Chand dynasties that once ruled both sides of the Mahakali. The drive through pine hills from Dadeldhura is scenic.
